International Colloquium on Mathematic Modelling in Epidemiology

Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) is holding an International Colloquium on Mathematical Modelling in Epidemiology, aimed at consolidating and strengthening advances in the application of mathematics in epidemiology. This public event will take place from August 14 to 17, starting at 8 am, in FGV’s main building.

During the four-day meeting, the speakers will explore the following topics:

Mathematical modeling;
Statistical methods to analyze infectious diseases;
Epidemiological surveillance systems;
The evolution of virulence.

Talks will be given by the following specialists, among others: Abba Gumel of the University of Maryland; John Edmunds of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Mauricio Santillana of Harvard University; Claudia Torres Codeço and Daniel Villela of the Scientific Computing Program at Brazil’s Oswaldo Cruz Foundation; Guilherme Loureiro Werneck of the Institute for Social Medicine at Rio de Janeiro State University; and Tiago Pereira of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computing at the University of Sao Paulo.

The colloquium’s organizing committee is made up of Claudio Struchiner, Luiz Max Carvalho, Guilherme T. Goedert, Eduardo Massad and Flavio Coelho, all professors at FGV EMAp, as well as Professor Lucas Stolerman of Oklahoma State University.
