Joseph Lewnard

Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, UC Berkeley School of Public Health
Postdoctoral Research Fellow

(Former Bio) Joseph Lewnard, PhD, was a postdoctoral research fellow with Marc Lipsitch in the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at HSPH. Joe completed his doctoral studies in infectious disease modeling in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale in 2017. His doctoral work included projects in statistical inference of weak immunity for pathogens such as rotavirus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and modeling transmission dynamics of neglected tropical disease agents.

Joe’s postdoctoral work focused on the development and application of causal inference methods for vaccine-derived and naturally-acquired immunity, in particular for test-negative studies of vaccine effectiveness. He also lead a grant addressing host and bacterial factors in otitis media pathogenesis in collaboration with Ron Dagan (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel).
