(Former Bio) Maria Georgieva, PhD, joined the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the fall of 2015 as a Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Lipsitch. She received her PhD from Emory University in 2015 where she studied modulation of host immune responses by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the Lipsitch Laboratory, Dr. Georgieva studied immune escape by antibody antigens of Streptococcus pneumoniae. Using a combination of population genomics, proteomics, microbiologic and immunologic approaches, she worked toward understanding the interplay between antigen diversification and host immunity.
